President Eyring and Elder Holland answered questions at a youth question and answer session. The youth are told to side with the prophet over the Holy Ghost when their personal revelation is not consistent with the leaders of the church.

This is actually a form of worship and known as a double bind, which is a dilemma in communication in which an individual receives two or more reciprocally conflicting messages. This gives people a sense of inconsistency and unease. These leaders teach that they are the Lord’s gatekeeper, but we know from the scriptures only Jesus is the gatekeeper.

2:19 – Now elder Holland prompts Eyring to say that the answers we receive are true only if they are consistent with what the leaders have said and the answers have a feeling of love for the leaders! Then President Eyring confuses having a revelation from God with one’s opinion as he dismisses the revelation if it does not align with what the leaders have said and taught.

4:44 – Concluding this video, President Oaks says that he studied the reasons being given for the restriction on the ordination and temple blessings of persons of African ancestry, but he could not feel confirmation of its truth. He then prayed that all would enjoy the blessings of the priesthood and temple someday. He decided to be loyal to the prophetic leaders and did not make his revelation on this subject known. Oaks then says at the end of this video that “It is wrong to criticize leaders of the church even if the criticism is true.”
